Sometimes a Hug is Just What We Need

Often we go through our days, from one perfunctory activity to the next, feeling detached from the people around us. It becomes commonplace to envelop ourselves in a bubble, to cloak ourselves in a shroud of indifference.

The feeling of being touched, of sharing affection with another human being, is one of the most rewarding experiences we know — and one that is too frequently taken for granted. Sometimes a hug is just what we need.

Our ventures into Free Hugging have been immensely gratifying. Watching as people’s faces light up at just the possibility of getting a hug. Seeing their spirits lift as they open up to being twined in the arms of a complete stranger. Feeling that energy flow between us and spiral uncontrollably toward others.

The oneness of people from different upbringings all around the world becomes apparent. We all share in the same basic needs and desires, feel the same emotions flitting through our bodies. And as we go on our daily paths, it’s good to remember that we’re all in this together.

And if you haven’t seen our first Free Hugs video, check it out here.

Wow, what a really cool video!!! Just what I needed this morning!!

I am taking a course where I am reading Dianetics Modern Science of Mental Health, by L. Ron Hubbard for the ‘first’ time after now battling breast cancer for the last 5 years and I realize just how much our survival really does depend on the relationships we make. We are not in this alone.

    Thanks for the hug!!!

    Dear Brandt and Fellow Huggers,

Thank you for embodying the spirit of the nonprofit I created, Dream One World, Inc. I will be featuring this video in my September e-newsletter and will put it on the “Global Links” page of our website.

Everyone on the planet needs to see your videos and/or be present at your Hugfests. These will manifest change far faster than words on paper or talking heads - and bring the people on this planet closer to realizing that yes, we are all in this together.

    Sending you all a cyber-hug,

  21. Nadine Says:

I can’t help but notice how EVERY single hug is one where hearts do not meet, and by that I mean, each person leans to the left, therefore avoiding to have both hearts meet. Try leaning the other way to hug and see how that feels … open hearts.

  22. Wot Gorilla Says:

Finally!… got around to watching this second video this morning. The lyrics of the song work really nicely with the images… Excellent. : )

Just one small criticism… [aside from the fact that you're not hugging with hearts {rolls eyes}] …the young lady in the green top: you need to show more enthusiasm for his. Your heart clearly isn’t in it. ; )

  23. Wot Gorilla Says:

    “…for his…”

For his what?… you might well ask!

Sorry, the smell chucker didn’t pick up that muffstake…

    For ‘his’, read ‘this’.

Ummm… I’ll go and sit quietly in this corner over here now. Yeah?

  24. Valentina Gasparato Says:

Thank you very much, very very theta and very… Italian style :))
